How do you view the future?
Are you like me, wondering about your future? constantly thinking what if that happens? What if I can’t go? What if…?\
Driving in the car listening to the radio Mercy Me’s song Even If came on. I was singing along and found myself really taking in the words and what they meant. I thought about the verse the song draws from, Daniel 3:16-18.
16-18 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered King Nebuchadnezzar, “Your threat means nothing to us. If you throw us in the fire, the God we serve can rescue us from your roaring furnace and anything else you might cook up, O king. But even if he doesn’t, it wouldn’t make a bit of difference, O king. We still wouldn’t serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up.” Message
These three men were facing death because they stood for what they believed in and Who their trust was in.
Now this is never a scenario I play out and think what if this happens, but take a minute and think about it. What if you are faced with persecution from others because of what you believe and Who you follow?
Verse 18 is what really got me thinking.
18 But even if He does not [save us], we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the object of gold that you have set up.”
Standing face-to-face with death, they believed that God would save them, but even if He didn’t their faith in Him wouldn’t change. Regardless of the circumstance of facing death, they trusted God.
Maybe you are not facing death for your faith in Jesus. Maybe your what if is: What if I lose my job? What if my husband leaves me? What if my children never follow God?
What if we trusted God with the outcome, no matter what our circumstances are?
Making the decision to live an even if life can seem scary. I think we are so used to being on our own in this world and taking care of ourselves that we sometimes forget that our God is always with us every step of the way. When we make Him a part of the equation it doesn’t matter what the outcome is because we have intentionally put Him on our side. And if our God is for us who could be against us?
