To the Wounded Woman

By |May 18th, 2017|Categories: Her Voice|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

To the hearts of wounded women: Not necessarily wounded in body…but in spirit…in the soul…in the heart…the mind.  The places where the devil creeps in…leaves his sinister seeds of pain, doubt, worry, worthlessness, loneliness, fear, loathing, fallacy, hate, anger and resentment.  Then, in partnership with the world he waters the seeds and they grow.  Some quickly.  We see them almost immediately as selfishness, self pity, and self reliance rear their heads.   While others slowly grow, choking out the joy, hope, [...]

When God Set Me Up

By |May 11th, 2017|Categories: Her Voice|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Several months ago, I sat next to my husband on our living room couch, quietly crying in frustration and pain over the circumstances we found ourselves in the midst of. I wondered out loud for the hundredth time why these things had happened, when they were going to be resolved, and where in the world was God while all this was going on.  Because I sure hadn't been hearing from Him much lately.  Had we been making the right decisions? [...]

Forgiveness

By |May 4th, 2017|Categories: equipHER, Her Voice|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Forgiveness Eleven letters which hold such great power. Power to unlock and free oneself from a life of being imprisoned to anger, offense, and bitterness. When I think of the word “forgiveness” there are many examples from the Bible that come to my mind. Examples of the power of God moving in the lives of ordinary people. Jesus models forgiveness for us as He cries out “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing” as he [...]

Can’t You Be a Better Person?

By |April 20th, 2017|Categories: equipHER, Her Voice|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |1 Comment

Driving down the road one day, Michael and I were discussing a parenting issue involving our son, Ben. Every few minutes, Emily, who was 10 years old at the time, kept piping up with her opinion on the situation. We finally said, “Emily this really isn’t any of your business.” She sighed, saying, “Fine, if you don’t want me to help you make Ben a better person! Whatever.” Isn’t that what we think we’re doing sometimes, helping to make someone [...]

He Gets It

By |April 13th, 2017|Categories: equipHER, Her Voice|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Do you ever feel like no one understands what you are going through?  I do!  Like your friends or even your family just don’t get it?  Me, again! The other morning heading to work I was feeling a little weary, a little hurt, a little angry a little a lot of things, I guess.  I was thinking about someone who I am frustrated with.  I guess I felt let down by this individual and I felt justified in my feelings. [...]

Embraced by Grace

By |April 6th, 2017|Categories: equipHER, Her Voice|Tags: , , , , , |0 Comments

I haven’t always gone to church. I have found church to be both a place that is inviting, beautiful and healing (like it is today) and I have also found it to be a place of  a lot of rules and judgment. My first experience that I can remember with church was in 6th grade. My mom and I moved from Bellingham to Redmond. My first day at school I met my best friend. This is how the story goes… [...]

A Surprising Wholeness

By |March 23rd, 2017|Categories: Her Voice|Tags: , , , , , , |0 Comments

“If the Lord had not been for us”…Psalm 124 Yesterday, as I pondered by these words, my mind retraced the many times God has literally saved my life. A home break-in. A mountain climbing slip. Running blind in the dark. A high-speed car accident. If the Lord had not been for me…wow. I thought of the many other ways God has saved (the Greek word sozo often translated in Enlish as “saved” means wholeness; healing) me from my own brokenness. [...]

“Am I Not Still There?”

By |March 16th, 2017|Categories: Her Voice|Tags: , , , , , , |1 Comment

Rising early one morning, unable to sleep, I crawled out of bed and tiptoed downstairs. As I walked past the breakfast nook window, I stopped to view the beautiful and unexpected sight before me. The full moon, in all its brightness, shone like a marquee; puffs of big white clouds surrounded the moon like a frame and highlighted its beauty. The mountains in the background completed the picture. I stood in awe. Closing my eyes, expressions of praise and thanksgiving [...]

People Loving People

By |March 9th, 2017|Categories: Her Voice|Tags: , , , , , |1 Comment

Those moments that change your life, that make you feel loved. On October 1 I was in the hospital. Visitors could only come between 7 and 8 pm. Angela Craig graciously came to visit me. I was in need of a visitor and needed a momma's touch. You see my mom was 4 hours away and unable to visit. As I poured my heart out, Angela at one point grabbed hold of my hands and just loved on me. She [...]

What would you do if you knew your call was irrevocable?

By |March 1st, 2017|Categories: equipHER|Tags: , , , , , , |0 Comments

Every day, I listen to women’s stories of frustration as they bump the illusive glass ceiling. Women who know they are gifted, skilled, and called to lead, but can’t seem to find an opportunity, be promoted, receive equal pay, or get paid at all. I understand this frustration, because I have been there. It is painful and makes you want to quit. The interesting thing is, God promises that “his gifts and his call are irrevocable” (Romans 11:29 NIV). So where [...]
